A Drop for the Au-cean

A Drop for the Au-cean

A Drop for the Au-cean: Detrash Introduces the “Au-cean Blue”  A gold and ocean blue small-batch automatic dress watch that gives back to the sea.

Detrash is proud to announce the release of the Au-cean Blue (pronounced Ocean Blue), a slim, gold-toned automatic dress watch inspired by mid-century icons and built with modern, sustainable materials. The name hints at the blend of influences: a nod to Au (gold) and the ocean, where much of the brand’s environmental focus is directed.

The design draws from several timeless references. Its initial inspiration comes from Steve McQueen’s Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox worn in The Thomas Crown Affair, combined with Genta-style twisted lugs that echo the Universal Genève Polerouter and subtle cues reminiscent of the Patek Philippe Calatrava. The resulting silhouette is clean, balanced and quietly distinctive.

Detrash’s founder and designer, Guy Blaskey comments, “I love slim dress watches like the Calatrava and vintage watches like the JLC’s from the 60’s and 70’s, but I want a watch that I can wear every day, one that’s got good water resistance, one that can take a bit of a beating and one that’s worn with a t-shirt as much as it’s worn with a suit. Personally I feel more comfortable wearing a watch that costs less than £500 than I do in one that costs tens of thousands. More importantly I like brands that actually stand for something and have principles - something that’s missing from the blingy watch world”.

The Au-cean Blue is built on classic, wearable proportions:

  • 38mm diameter

  • Super-slim 8mm case (10.6mm with sapphire)

  • Crafted from 80% recycled steel with a gold PVD finish

  • A brushed profile with polished highlights for understated texture

The watch is paired with a blue AppleSkin® strap, a soft, leather-alternative made from fruit-juice waste and lined with a corn-based “nubuck” for comfort straight out of the box. Sapphire crystal is used on both the front and the exhibition caseback, revealing the Miyota 9039 automatic movement.

The “Au-cean Blue” is produced in small batches and each watch is individually numbered with the batch and edition number. As this is a new drop there are a lot of low numbers available, a chance for collectors to get something extra special.

This release isn’t just about the watch on the wrist. It’s also about the water that inspired it.
A portion of profits from every Au-cean Blue  sold will go directly to Surfers Against Sewage, supporting their work in cleaning up coastlines, protecting marine ecosystems and fighting pollution in UK waters. It’s a natural extension of Detrash’s commitment to environmental contribution, further supported by the brand’s pledge that at least 1% of every sale goes toward planet-focused initiatives.

The “Au-cean Blue” is available now at Detrash.com.
